Research claims that developing domestic solar LED lighting in China is beneficial to economy

In developing countries and regions, solar LED lighting is increasingly replacing candles, firewood, kerosene lamps and other traditional lighting using fuel, which brings huge energy conservation and environmental protection benefits. Not only that, American researchers found that this trend can also stimulate local economic development, which is expected to create about 2 million jobs worldwide.
Evan, an energy analyst at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Dr. Mills recently completed the first global analysis on how the shift to solar LED lighting will affect employment and job opportunities. He focused on the poorest 112 million of the world’s 274 million households lacking electricity supply. These households, mainly distributed in Africa and Asia, are not connected to the power grid and cannot afford solar power generation equipment, so they are suitable for using solar LED lighting.
Mills recently published a relevant research report on the website of the bimonthly magazine Sustainable Energy, saying that solar energy replaces fossil fuels for lighting, creating more jobs than lost jobs.
According to Mills’ investigation and analysis, including selling candles, wick, kerosene and other supplies, the lighting industry based on fossil fuels has supported about 150000 jobs worldwide. For every 10,000 people without access to power grid who use solar LED lights, the local solar LED lighting industry needs to create 38 jobs. According to this calculation, the jobs created by solar LED lighting are equivalent to those provided by fossil fuel lighting. In order to fully meet the solar LED lighting demand of 112 million households, about 2 million new jobs are needed, which is far more than the jobs that may be lost in the fuel based lighting market.
The study also said that the quality of new jobs will be greatly improved. The fuel supply for lighting is full of black market transactions, cross-border kerosene smuggling and child labor, which are unstable and the fuel itself is toxic. In contrast, the employment opportunities created by the solar LED lighting industry are legal, healthy, stable and fixed.
The report also said that the use of solar LED lighting may also create more job opportunities and employment income by generating indirect employment, re spending energy saving funds, improving the working environment, improving the cultural level of employees, etc.
